San Francisco

Hello! So only after 1.5 weeks, we've got plenty to report on already!
Our time in San Francisco came and went all too quickly. The weather wasn't the best but then thats to be expected given it's January!
San Francisco is a great city for tourists. Great because you can walk about everywhere, has good public transport options, has plenty of American history and features some of the most well known attractions in the U.S.





We started our time there with some FOT (feel of the town) in the haze and mist, wondering up and down the hills and eventually deciding on a tour of Alcatraz, the infamous former maximum security prison. Surprisingly it was only a prison for a relatively short time in it's life before a tourist attraction. It was a fun tour, and an example of the some of the great things we'll be seeing in the future in our trip.



Navi and I are getting used to hiring bikes on our trips, and we hired some to cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge and over to Sausalito on a full day trip where the Sun was out and made the bridge look stunning.



Another notable highlight was the sour dough bread that all restaruants and shops stock that all seem to have come from an institution called Boudins. Nice Clam Chowders in a bread bowl. mmmm.



We saw the famous Haight Ashbury area, famed for it's part in the hippy/free love revolution of the 60's. Following that was a rather pleasant afternoon with Anthony (randomly met up with a university friend) checking out Golden Gate Park and cycling to see the Pacific Ocean.



This was also our very first holiday counting the pennies, and so we're getting a crash course in budgeting, and i'm always being surprised by how quickly daily tallies rack up. More to come from our Pacific Coastal Drive!
