On Friday, we attempted a walking tour around Centro - the city centre - but the heat stopped us in our tracks after barely 30 mins. We did manage to take in a square that surprisingly commemorated Mahatma Gandhi, not sure what the connection to Brazil was, but still a proud moment all the same. Also we saw the Parisien-styled Teatro Municipal, a rather grand (and somewhat out-of-place) building compared against the backdrop of all the cement towers.
From there, we headed up to Santa Teresa. Set a top a hill, the only way up was via a rickety old streetcar. The Brazilians took it as an opportunity to play "how-many-people-can-we-fit-on-this-streetcar"! I've decided to keep a list of crazy journey encountered on this 6 month trip - this was the first on the list. It was at Santa Teresa, where we stumbled upon yet another street party in the making. This was one of the biggest ones in Rio. We found ourselves a nice bar overlooking the carnival parade where camped out and watched the world go by for a few hours whilst things got started. When the parade came along, it was a mix of styles from the 2 previous street parties we'd already seen: both big, colourful, loud and very drunken.

look like one long party,some of the high octane indian movie scenes are shot in brazil instead of usa or uk ,cos the stars are not known there,film like DOOM 1 & 2(copacabana beach,high way for car chase )Kriss etc ,so just put a statue of gandhiji in a public area,good for businness. have fun.
